Overview
Andreas Fröhlich (born July 11, 1965, in West Berlin) is a German actor, voice-over artist, audiobook and radio drama narrator, and reciter. From 1995 to 2007, he also worked as a dubbing director and dialogue scriptwriter. Fröhlich became best known for his role as the "Third Detective," Bob Andrews, in the *Europa* radio drama series *Die drei ???* (The Three Investigators), which has been running since 1979. As an audiobook narrator—particularly in the genres of speculative fiction as well as children's and young adult literature—he gained increasing popularity starting in the early 2000s. Several of his productions have been featured on Germany's audiobook bestseller lists. In 2010, he received the German Audiobook Prize for his narration of *Doppler* by the Norwegian author Erlend Loe. Andreas Fröhlich serves as the official German voice actor for both John Cusack and Edward Norton. In 2003, he was awarded the German Dubbing Prize in the category "Outstanding Dubbing Script" for *The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers*. Fröhlich describes himself as a "radio drama performer."
Andreas Fröhlich attended the Wald-Gymnasium in Berlin; after graduating from school, he began formal acting training, though he did not complete the program. At the age of just seven, he was discovered in the children's choir of the broadcaster *Sender Freies Berlin* (SFB), where he quickly established himself as a child voice actor within the radio drama department.
After landing his first radio drama roles under the direction of Kurt Vethake and Ulli Herzog, Fröhlich was cast in the series *Die drei ???* in 1978. Since then, he has appeared as Bob Andrews in every episode of the series released to date, performing alongside Oliver Rohrbeck (as Justus Jonas) and Jens Wawrczeck (as Peter Shaw).
Between 2002 and 2003, the three voice actors embarked on a nationwide tour with a program titled *Master of Chess*, performing a live stage adaptation of a *Die drei ???* radio drama episode. In 2004, to mark the series' 25th anniversary, the trio performed the episode *Der Superpapagei* (The Super Parrot) at the sold-out Color Line Arena in Hamburg. In 2009, the trio once again took a stage adaptation—titled *Die drei Fragezeichen und Der seltsame Wecker – live and ticking*—on a tour across Germany. In August 2010, at the Waldbühne in Berlin, they set a world record for the largest live audio drama performance, drawing an audience of over 15,000 people.
Alongside his work as a voice actor, Fröhlich also worked as a stage actor at the Fränkisches Theater Schloss Maßbach during the late 1980s. There, his roles included performances in *Was ihr wollt* (Twelfth Night), *Der Hauptmann von Köpenick*, *Figaros Hochzeit* (The Marriage of Figaro), and *Woyzeck*.
Since the mid-1970s, Fröhlich has also taken on occasional roles in film and television productions. He has appeared in shows such as *Sesamstraße*, *Lemmi und die Schmöker*, *Das feuerrote Spielmobil*, *Ich heirate eine Familie*, *Die Wicherts von nebenan*, and *Ein Fall für zwei*. In 2007, he made a cameo appearance in the film *Die drei ??? – Das Geheimnis der Geisterinsel*.
