Overview

Klei Entertainment Inc. is an independent game development studio located in Vancouver, British Columbia founded by a former programmer and CEO of Relic Entertainment. The studio developed more than 11 games in different genres. Their debut project was Eets, a puzzle game that gameplaywise shared many similarities with such games as Lemmings and The Incredible Machine. The game was well-received and got a remake – Eets Munchies in 2014. Many of Klei games use the cartoony visual style that imitates hand-drawn pictures or Saturday-morning cartoons. An example of later is 2010 beat em’ up Shank and its 2012 sequel Shank 2. In 2012, Klei Entertainment released Mark of the Ninja – a 2D side-scrolling stealth action that used art style similar to that of Shank. The game gained widespread critical acclaim and ended up in several end-years lists of the best games of 2012. Another major success for the company 2013 top-down open-world survival game Don’t Starve, and its standalone multiplayer mode Don’t Starve together that offered a different look at open-world survival genre with its unusual art style and gameplay mechanics.
